Lorne
Winters is a Canadian born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He began sketching
and painting in his early youth. He studied and graduated in Civil Engineering
at the University of Toronto, after which he pursued a career in engineering
construction. In his leisure time he continued to paint and also began
sculpting. After having accomplished his career goals, he decided to make
a change and pursue the one thing he considered more important and satisfying
--- to create art in painting and in sculpture. For the past several years
he has devoted all his time to this pursuit, primarily to sculpting.
As a self-taught artist, his works
reflect a basic simplicity naturally derived from his engineering construction
background. His paintings, mostly figurative and still life, are in a
traditional style and include in most cases a definitive play of light and shadow.
His sculptures are mostly stylized figurative
with simplicity and freedom of form and with varying degrees of abstraction.
His use of textural variations in the surface finish, combined with high-lighting
techniques in the patination enhance the sinuous lines and curves of his sculpture.
While honing his sculpting skills, he experimented with various materials and eventually developed and perfected a unique sculpting media, "WINTERSTONE". He works exclusively in this media --- be it a working model destined for eventual bronze casting or a finished permanent sculpture in itself. This product is presently being introduced and marketed commercially to the sculpting community.
He is a member of the Sculptor Society of Canada and a past member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario.
His works are presently being shown in galleries in North America.
